How to use it
- Enter an amount in USD. The result in JOD updates as you type.
- Use the swap button to convert the other way.
- Check the rate date under the result, and the quick-reference table for common amounts.
The formula
JOD = USD × Rate(USD → JOD)
To go back, divide by the same rate: USD = JOD ÷ Rate.
About USD to JOD
The Central Bank of Jordan has pegged the dinar to the US dollar since 1995, at about 0.709 JOD per dollar (roughly 1.41 USD per dinar). Reference rates for this pair therefore barely move.
The dinar is divided into 1,000 fils, so amounts are written with three decimals — 70.900 JOD, not 70.90.
Exchange shops and banks in Jordan buy and sell dollars at slightly different rates around the peg; the gap is their margin.
Assumptions
- The rate is a mid-market reference rate, not a bank’s buy or sell price.
- Rates are published once per working day and cached on your device for up to an hour.
Common mistakes
- Expecting a bank or exchange shop to give you the reference rate exactly.
- Forgetting to check the publication date on weekends and public holidays.
Questions
Does the USD to JOD rate change?
Only very slightly. Because of the peg, day-to-day movements in the reference rate are tiny. The rate you get at a bank or exchange shop varies more, because of their margin.
How many dollars is one dinar?
About 1.41 US dollars. Swap the currencies in the converter to see the current reference figure.
